A leader promoting changes for the peace of children and youth in El Salvador.

Gerson Suárez currently leads the Salvadoran Hockey Federation (FESAHOCKEY). Graduated in Business Administration, he has been linked to the national sport since 2010, initially in high-performance rowing, competing until the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, where he achieved tenth place. His foray into Salvadoran hockey began in 2015 as part of an Olympic Solidarity project, participating in Indoor Hockey during 2016.

In 2018, he represented El Salvador as a Technical Officer at the Central American Hockey 5s Championship in Pinula, Guatemala. The following year, alongside a friend, he organized the first "International Clubs Championship" in El Salvador, attracting men and women club teams from Guatemala and Honduras.

In the years 2020-2021, he continued his involvement in FESAHOCKEY as an athlete, coach, and administrator, increasing the programming of national and international training sessions and friendly matches, culminating in the Central American Championships.

In December 2021, he was elected president of FESAHOCKEY with the clear objective of establishing a long-term development process and formalizing competition. He acknowledges the ongoing support of the President of the Pan American Hockey Federation, Alberto "Coco" Budeisky, who supported the national federation with training sessions, coaches like Ignacio López, and sports equipment for its spread.

From January 2022 to March 2024, the number of hockey schools in El Salvador increased from one to 16, providing more boys, girls, and young people with the opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport. The implementation of the "Student Hockey League Project" in 2023 attracted the participation of 7 schools, 5 categories, and approximately 175 participants throughout the year. In 2024, this initiative continues with the participation of 15 schools and more than 300 boys and girls in 8 different categories.

Gerson highlights that these actions seek to be factors of change and peace in the childhood and youth of El Salvador through hockey and sports. FESAHOCKEY appreciates the support of INDES, COES, the Municipal Institute, and Educational Centers, and is committed to continue working to expand hockey and provide more opportunities for Salvadoran youth.
